Early in the series, you can still expect some of the best pitchers in the game to be tossing. That’s the case here, but it still doesn’t change the fact that we’re going with a second straight YRFI spot.
A big part of that reason is that these teams know how to manufacture runs. We saw it in Game 1 – both teams collected at least a baserunner per inning on average. Runs came from base hits and stringing together sequences. The teams aren’t afraid to bunt, steal, and move guys over. Those types of things can help to overcome quality pitching.
In addition to their abilities to chain together sequences, I am also fading these two pitchers early in the game. Drew Rasmussen and Logan Henderson are the ones getting the ball. If you look at each of their last two playoff starts, they have allowed runs in three of the four games. All of those are from putting rallies together with walks and hits – none of which came via the long ball. There’s plenty of reason these two offenses could do that exact same thing early here.
