MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 12th

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 5:00 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – Fox

While Game 1 didn’t feature much offense, I have a feeling things are about to turn in Game 2. Firstly, three runs certainly doesn’t tell the story of the day. There were 13 hits in the game and 11 walks for a 1.41 collective WHIP. That’s a sign of good things to come. Also, when you consider where these two teams were in the regular season, it’s hard to imagine them being quiet for too long. The Brewers ranked second in runs scored and the Dodgers ranked fourth. Plus, the Brewers were in the top five of the league when it comes to scoring in the first inning.

If we need another reason to get in on the YRFI here is the pitching matchup. While Yoshinobu Yamamoto has looked like a man possessed, the Brewers have seen him twice already. While he was successful in those games, they did hit him pretty well – tallying 13 hits in 13.0 innings. Logan Henderson has also been solid this season, but gave up a first inning run in his only postseason appearance this year.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 12: Yes (+130)

Cleveland Guardians vs. Tampa Bay Rays

First Pitch – 8:00 pm EST
Tropicana Field – St. Petersburg, FL
Broadcast – TBS

We’ll get back to our NRFI ways with the American League Championship Series. A big part of that play is Drew Rasmussen. He gets the ball for the second time in October after running over the Yankees in the ALDS. He threw 8.0 innings of one-hit baseball and only walked two. That’s not a surprise given how his September went. Last month he posted a 1.05 ERA, which helped to put him in 7th in the majors in that stat category. With Cleveland ranking 24th in run scoring this year, they hardly seem like the team to disrupt that run.

The bottom half of the inning will feature Foster Griffin looking to shut things down. He put up a solid season this year, but perhaps nothing that’s going to garner awards votes. However, he carries a much more important distinction than that. Left-handed arms have given the Rays more trouble this year. They hit 14 points lower and slugged 54 points lower against lefties. You could also cut their home run rate just about in half. Between that and the fact that they were merely an average first inning team this year, we should get the NRFI hit.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 12: No (-150)
