NFL Week 4 Recap & Saints/Falcons MNF Bombs! Recap

Bottom Line Bombs is live with the NFL Week 4 recap, starting with the Eagles blowing a 20-10 halftime lead and losing 24-22. A Philly buddy in town for the birthday party pulls up a chair, and the show ends on a Kendre Miller rushing ladder for Saints vs Falcons on Monday Night Football.

The Man In The Box Gets A Surprise Guest

CJ Sullivan is back in the box after a big birthday weekend, and he has company in the studio. Anthony Tartaglia, a Philly guy who now lives in Florida, flew in to surprise him and got pulled straight into Monday’s show.

The party was at an Elks Lodge out by the airport, and it had a horse racing theme. A guy who does this for a living bought a whole library of old races on VHS. CJ thinks the tapes came from Hollywood Park, and the guy hauls boxes of them from town to town. So guests bet fake money on old races full of photo finishes. Then CJ got an inside tip on the ninth race. He told the room to bet the four, and everyone won. Darren had a rougher night. He lost every real bet and every fake one. His Saquon Barkley two-touchdown bet also died about eight seconds in, when Barkley got hurt.

CJ’s own birthday bets didn’t go much better, because the sports world doesn’t care whose birthday it is. Three of his sides got backdoored and the Mariota injury still stings. But the ladders keep hitting. He gave out Darius Cooper on this show, and Cooper scored two touchdowns at 80 to 1. Anthony wanted the group to just tail CJ’s bets this weekend. They tailed Darren instead and lost every bet. Also, the MLB playoffs are here and hockey is back. The MLB Gaming Podcast and the Hockey Gaming Podcast have you covered there.

Katrina Night Bombs For Saints And Falcons

Monday Night Football is Falcons at Saints, the Katrina anniversary game, with Steve Gleason out there tonight. The line is one and a half with a total around 48.5, which CJ calls pretty high. The emotional case for New Orleans writes itself. But that energy lasts about five minutes, and then somebody has to play football. So the side is Atlanta plus 1.5. The Falcons looked like the worst team in football with Cooper Rush. Then Michael Penix stepped in, and suddenly they have actual players again, because Bijan Robinson and Drake London are both good.

Drake London is the obvious target, and CJ is on him too. He points to London’s nine catches for 194 yards and a matchup with Quincy Riley, who isn’t good. The alt ladder gets expensive fast, though, with 100 yards only paying +160. So the play is London over his regular prop of 88 yards. Kyle Pitts is a hard pass, birthday or not. CJ fell for that angle last week. Pitts ran a 4.3 and is a great athlete. But he just isn’t good at the sport of football. Anthony also loves how teams draft guys like that high and promise to unlock them.

The bomb comes out of the Saints backfield. An injury left the work to Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller. Kamara is a Saints legend who basically told the team he isn’t leaving, and the fans won’t let him go. Anthony compared it to a warehouse coworker who just stopped working one day. So Anthony did double the work, and nobody noticed. CJ thinks that’s the Saints tonight. Because Kamara can’t really do the job anymore, Miller becomes the RB1. Also, his rushing number is insanely low against a Falcons defense without much talent.

So here is the official Laddie Daddy ladder for Monday night. Miller starts at 30 rushing yards at even money, then 40 yards at +180. After that it’s 50 yards at +307 and 60 yards at +493. Next comes 70 yards at +793, with 80 yards at 11 to 1 and 90 yards at 16 to 1. And the top rung is a 100-yard game at 22 to 1. CJ’s case is short: the Saints’ starting running back, on Katrina night, against a terrible Atlanta defense in a game with a high total. There is no ladder law when it comes to Kendre Miller.

Sirianni Takes The Heat As The Eagles Fold

The Eagles lost 24-22 to the Rams after leading 20-10, and they lost it in regulation. They had third and goal from the two with about six minutes left. The injuries were real, to be fair. Saquon Barkley went down on the second drive and DeVonta Smith was already out. Lane Johnson also sat with what got called a personal reason. That Smith absence is exactly why the Darius Cooper ladder cashed. But the goal-line sequence is what lit up every Birds group chat CJ and Anthony are in.

CJ actually thinks going for it was the right call. The problem was execution, because the left guard ripped the ball out of Jalen Hurts’s hands. A handoff to Tank Bigsby would have done it. Then they called a tush push on fourth and five from their own 40. Anthony isn’t sure a tush push has ever gained five. Sirianni also probably should have called a timeout before that snap, and that one is on him. So the fans did what Philly fans do.

One fan interviewed after the game wanted to know if the team was eating meatball subs at halftime. The Italian jokes about Sirianni haven’t let up since. Anthony read one eight-line group text out loud. It called the play calling atrocious and the loss a disgrace, then ended with a demand to fire Sirianni and Mannion. That’s in week four. And both guys think the Eagles never deserved to win this one. Bad wins covered up a lot last year, and CJ would rather they learn it now. Next up is London against Liam Coen’s Jaguars, and CJ expects it to go badly.

NFL Week 4 Recap: A 1-3-1 Sunday Full Of Backdoors

CJ’s Week 4 card went 1-3-1, though he was directionally right on more than that. The morning opened with Washington +3.5 against the Colts. Mariota drove them to a field goal on the first drive, then got hurt on the second series. That handed the game to a rookie from UConn whom the coaches barely let throw. So the announcers praised the Colts defense for stepping up. CJ’s view is simpler, because any defense tightens up when the quarterback can’t push the ball downfield. Anthony also wants to know why the backup comes from UConn and not a starter out of the SEC.

Houston over Dallas was loss number two. The Texans had a 10-point lead and still let the Cowboys win outright. CJ also had beef with the refs, who gave Dallas something like 12 chances at the goal line on ticky-tack flags. George Pickens seems to have a new strategy too, which is drawing interference instead of piling up stats. Then Kansas City was loss three. The Chiefs pulled away late, but the Raiders covered with a two-point conversion. And half the bar at the party celebrated that meaningless two-pointer right in CJ’s face.

The push came from Seattle over the Chargers. Seattle was way up, then let the Chargers backdoor it down to seven. The lone winner was San Francisco over Denver. CJ thinks Brock Purdy might be the MVP right now, but nobody wants to admit it. He hasn’t been sacked, and he keeps making throws to Brandin Cooks and Christian Kirk. Anthony points out the Niners also have Deebo, so that’s two players people love to hate. And Bryce Young apparently might lead the league in passing yards.

Around the league, the Giants beat Arizona and sit in first place in the NFC East at 3-1. Jameis Winston looked good, and more importantly his arm looked alive. The Bears beat the Jets 23-12 and had more first downs than the Jets had plays. Jacksonville beat Cincinnati 22-17, and CJ thinks the Jags might be the best team in football. Also, the Vikings are 4-0 with two games where they never scored an offensive touchdown. Brian Flores blitzes something like 85% of the time, so that defense is carrying the load.

Anthony’s First Lap Around Los Angeles

Anthony’s first real look at LA came this morning, with an hour alone on Hollywood Boulevard in the heat and humidity. CJ says that humidity breaks the deal Angelenos signed up for. Anthony saw the Chinese Theatre, Snoopy’s star and one lone Spider-Man. The Bruce Lee star was packed with young people, which surprised him. Trump’s star was chipped up on the side. He also found Stallone’s small handprints and two sets for Robert Downey Jr. Then, crossing the street in Eagle Rock, they almost got hit by cars twice in about 10 yards.

The best story is the trip with Darren to watch the Eagles in Manhattan Beach. Skipping a 15-minute Uber, they grabbed Lime scooters, and the ride through El Segundo was all hills. Darren’s scooter crawled at maybe three miles an hour, so he swapped it mid-ride for one that did four. Bikes passed him on the beach path. Then his scooter died, and he suggested riding double on Anthony’s. They walked the rest instead, in jeans, in about 100 degrees. The whole point was the Sharkeez breakfast burrito CJ’s sister recommended. And Darren ordered pancakes and bacon.

Monday’s breakfast was Pann’s in Inglewood, a classic diner from the 1950s known for its chicken and waffles. CJ told everyone to get the 1958 special with wings. Anthony ordered it and loved the wings. Darren started with the breast, then worked his way back to a leg and thigh instead. Anthony flies home to Florida tonight after Monday Night Football, and Darren leaves tomorrow. So they’re in separate hotel rooms, which is wise. Anthony says Darren spent so much of the party in the bathroom that he’d never get a shower in.
