College Football Pick Of The Day (October 4th): NCAA Week 6 Spread Pick
For today’s Week 6 college football pick of the day, I’m looking at the New Mexico State at Florida International game. FIU sits at 2-2 but is undefeated at home. They have wins over Buffalo and LIU. Their defense has been the story of this team, allowing just 14.5 points and 245.8 yards per game. That ranks near the top nationally in total defense.
They held LIU to just three points and kept Florida Atlantic to 16 on the road. Quarterback J.J. Kohl has pushed the ball effectively through the air, giving the offense enough balance. However, their scoring average has not been great, at just 18 points. With that defense, though, that’s been enough.
New Mexico State is 2-3 and coming off a 34-13 win over Western Kentucky. However, they haven’t been very consistent. They allowed 42 points to New Mexico and 29 to Hawaii. Their defense ranks outside the top 85 in yards allowed and gives up 26.4 points per game. James Jones has been a bright spot on the ground, yet road results against physical defenses like FIU’s have been shaky at best.
The Panthers won the last game against Western Kentucky at their home stadium 34-13 in 2025. The line has moved from FIU being a 3-point favorite to now being a 5.5-point favorite. I’m following the line movement. The Aggies can move the ball in stretches, but I don’t think they can be consistent enough against this FIU defense.
Pick: Florida International -5.5.
