College Football Pick Of The Day (September 29th): NCAA Week 5 Spread Pick
For today’s Week 5 college football pick of the day, I’m looking at Alabama and Mississippi State. The Crimson Tide are a six-point road favorite in Starkville. That number feels a little rich for a 4-0 Bulldogs team that has covered every single week.
Mississippi State is averaging an amazing 533 yards per game. Kamario Taylor has 14 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. He’s playing with real confidence after a 360-yard, three-touchdown effort in the 31-24 upset of Missouri. The Bulldogs have lived in one-score games and keep finding ways to cover and win. They’re 4-0 ATS and have already passed road and ranked tests.
Of course, Alabama is the better team on paper. Keelon Russell just dropped 365 yards and four scores on South Carolina. The Tide are putting up 48 points per game. Their run defense is very stout. However, this is a noon kick in Davis Wade with the cowbells ringing. Mississippi State hasn’t beaten Alabama since 2017. Yet this version of the program under Jeff Lebby is built to hang around. Catching six points for a motivated home team is exactly the type of spot I want. Give me Mississippi State +6, and a sprinkle on the moneyline.
