We swept our NRFI plays once again on Saturday, and now we’re trying to continue that momentum as we head into the last day of the season. We have some NRFI bets for September 27.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 27
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Detroit Tigers
First Pitch – 3:10 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – MLB TV
We’ll kick off the final day of the season with a pitcher who has barely thrown this year. River Ryan gets the start for the Tigers and he looked solid in his lone start. He threw 3.0 scoreless innings against a decent Nationals lineup, allowing just two hits in the process. He fanned three and flashed some of the stuff that once made him a top prospect. The Pirates, meanwhile, have struggled down the stretch with their bats. They have just 15 runs scored in their last five games – or 3.00 runs per game.
Detroit has been a touch better at the plate lately, but they are still just a league average offense when it comes down to it. As a result, you can feel comfortable with Jared Jones on the bump. He’s been sensational for the Pirates down the stretch, and there is nobody better to close out the season for them. In his last four starts, he’s allowed just three runs and only 12 hits. That comes out to a 1.08 ERA and a 0.64 WHIP. Add in that he’s fanned 12.6 batters per nine innings in that run and he should be just fine for the first three outs of this one.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 27: No (-135)
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers
First Pitch – 3:10 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – MLB TV
With the Brewers getting a first round bye, they feel comfortable bringing out the big guns for one more start to end the season. Jacob Misiorowski will step on the rubber to put the stamp on his Cy Young season – although he will likely only throw a couple of innings. That’s fine for us NRFI bettors, as his stuff will play against anyone. And it will especially play against a team that has scored just 12 runs in their last five games combined (2.40 runs per game).
Milwaukee might be a tough team to believe in an NRFI against, but they are likely to rest a couple of guys for this one. Additionally, Andre Pallante toes the rubber on Sunday and he’s looked good lately. He’s held opponents to just one run in four of his last five starts. I’m not sure he’ll be that lucky here, but he should be able to give us an empty first frame.
