College Football Pick Of The Day (September 17th): NCAA Week 3 Spread Pick
Houston (+7.5) @ Texas Tech

I’ll start my daily college football picks with a Week 3 spread pick in the Houston at Texas Tech game. This opened around 9.5 and has come down to 7.5 in a ranked-versus-ranked Big 12 game. That kind of movement isn’t an accident.
Both teams are 2-0. However, in my opinion, Houston, ranked 22nd, has been the more complete side so far. The Cougars’ run defense is the separator in this one. They held Oregon State to 26 rushing yards on 25 carries.
Texas Tech wants to play physical and control the line of scrimmage at home, but Houston’s front seven has already shown it can take that away. The Red Raiders may be 2-0, but they’re 0-2 against the spread. The market is catching up to the fact that their early wins have not been as clean as the ranking suggests.
History may favor Texas Tech in this one. They’ve won seven straight in the series. Last year’s game saw Houston starting quarterback Connor Weignman leave injured. He’s healthy now and operating an offense that has produced at a high clip. A 7.5-point cushion on the road is more than enough protection against a team Houston can stay within striking distance of.
This is a classic sell-high on the home favorite. Texas Tech is getting the benefit of the venue and recent series control. However, the tape and the line movement say the gap is closer to a field goal, rather than a touchdown. Houston doesn’t need to win outright for us, though they are capable of that. They just need to keep the game within a score, which their defense and early-season production make realistic. Take the points.
