MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 15

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – ESPN

Kicking off our NRFI selection for Tuesday is Foster Griffin. While he got roughed up by the Orioles a bit his last time out, he has largely been good since making the move over to Cleveland. In his five previous starts, he logged a 3.00 ERA and was really locking in on the ground balls. He draws this White Sox lineup at the perfect time. They enter action on Tuesday losers of four of their last five with the hitting being the major culprit. They’ve scored just 12 runs in their last five games (2.40 runs per game) and half of those came in the lon win.

If we’re okay with fading the White Sox offense, we should feel downright good about fading the Guardians. They have consistently ranked near the bottom of the league in scoring and are currently sitting in 27th place. That’s exactly what NRFI bettors want to hear with Davis Martin heading to the hill. He’s been really sharp in his last couple starts – throwing 10.2 innings and only allowing a single run. That run came from a Esmerlyn Valdez solo shot that barely made it out of the park.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 15: No (TBD)

Atlanta Braves vs. Chicago Cubs

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Wrigley Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Braves offense continues to slump post-All Star break. They have been one of the very worst hitting teams since that point in the season and showed it again on Monday. They didn’t manage to get themselves on the board until the 7th inning of that contest and can’t seem to string much together. That gives me a little more faith that Kevin Gausman can get out of the first. He has been up and down all season, but has held opponents to three or less runs in over half of his starts since joining the Cubs.

Although we’ve spent some time targeting offenses to fade, the bottom of the inning is not that. In fact, the Cubs have more runs scored per game than any team in baseball. Instead, we’re here to tail Martin Perez, who has been a shot in the arm for a Braves team that could use it. He threw 7.0 shutout innings last time out against a tough Rays lineup and only allowed four hits in the process. That dropped his season ERA down to 3.08 and gives us all the faith we need that he’ll put up a clean opening frame.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 15: No (TBD)

Bonus Pick: Marlins/Diamondbacks NRFI (TBD)
