MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 10

Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners

First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Kicking off this NRFI play will be Logan Gilbert. Although he got touched up a bit against the Athletics last time out, his ERA remains at 3.71, which has him in the top 25 of the majors. He also was still flashing big strikeout stuff in that game – racking up 10 in the process. Now he’ll face a Texas team that does not have a lot going for them at the plate. They were held to two runs on Wednesday and have fallen to 26th in the majors in run scoring.

While the Rangers have struggled at the plate, they have not struggled nearly as much as the Mariners. Seattle ranks dead last in run scoring and is the only team in the majors to be scoring less than 4.00 runs per game. They also rank in the bottom third of the league in first inning scoring. Facing Jacob deGrom likely won’t help those numbers. He has found his way lately and is starting to look like his old self. He has held five of his last six opponents to two runs or fewer with all of those games coming against far better hitting teams than Seattle.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 10: No (-155)

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Rate Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV

On the surface, the Pirates are not like the Rangers or Mariners. They have been solid all year at scoring runs and are amongst the top teams in the league in many offensive categories. However, they have not necessarily been sharp lately. Over their last five games, they have scored just 16 total runs (a 3.20 per game average). Three of those games saw them score one or less runs. That’s music to the ears of Hagen Smith, who is getting his first start for the White Sox. Despite not getting a chance to get things started, he has been phenomenal for them out of the pen. He has not allowed a run in 11.1 innings and has only allowed four hits with 16 strikeouts in that span.

The White Sox have also not been a bad hitting team this year, but this is far more about how good Jared Jones has been. In his last four starts (19.2 innings), he’s posted a 2.75 ERA with 27 strikeouts. That kind of stuff should stifle even the best offenses. As a result, he should be able to get us a quick three outs here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 10: No (-140)

Bonus Pick: Rays/Braves NRFI (-105)
