The White Sox and the Astros had an offensive power outage and helped us easily cash our Wednesday NRFI. We’ll look to build on that momentum as we move on to Thursday. We have some NRFI bets for September 3.
Only 18 teams are in action on Thursday, but that’s plenty to dig through and find a couple of winners. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 3
Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Camden Yards– Baltimore, MD
Broadcast – MLB TV
You aren’t going to find a team that yo-yos quite as much as this Red Sox squad. They look like they could be World Series champions one day and look like they don’t belong anywhere near the playoffs on the next. However, regardless as to whether they are hot or not, they have been consistently bad in the first inning. They rank 27th in the majors in terms of first inning runs. That’s good news for Brandon Young, who just posted his fourth consecutive month with an ERA under 4.00. He should be able to get us three quick outs here.
In the bottom of the first we get the Orioles, who have been better across the whole season, but haven’t been strong at the plate lately. Over the last three games, they have just seven total runs in regulation (or 2.33 runs per game). That’s not a great sign when you have to face Jake Bennett and his 3.27 ERA. Not only had Bennett been strong across the whole season, but he’s fresh off one of his very best starts. Last time out he went 6.0 scoreless innings with just three hits against the Yankees. With the Orioles looking much worse offensively, Bennett should handle the first.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 3: No (-120)
Miami Marlins vs. Kansas City Royals
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Kaufman Stadium – Kansas City, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV
This game did not give us an NRFI on Wednesday. In fact, there were seven runs scored in the first inning. However, after that, both teams retreated into their usual offensive outages. Both rank in the bottom third of the league in run scoring and in the bottom half of the league in first inning scoring. To make matters even better for NRFI bettors, this is also a stellar pitching matchup.
Michael Wacha toes the rubber first along with his 3.32 ERA. He touted an August with single digit runs allowed and a 2.51 ERA. He closed the month with 10 strikeouts over 8.0 scoreless innings against the Guardians. After that game, he should be able to keep the good times rolling for at least three outs in this one.
Sandy Alcantara will try to finish the NRFI for us. He had a similarly hot August. He threw 39.0 innings and allowed single digit runs as well – posting a 2.05 ERA in the process. That got him into the top 25 of the majors in earned runs. With as bad as the Royals have been lately, he should close this one out for us.
