MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 11

New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves

First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – MLB TV

After the first inning scoring explosion from these two, some might be a bit shy on grabbing the NRFI for this series. However, after putting up five in the first inning, the Mets cooled back down. They still rank in the bottom third of the league when it comes to runs scored and first inning scoring. Martin Perez should help keep them down there as he’s been particularly sharp lately. In his last two starts – with the second one being shortened for rain – he’s logged 10.0 scoreless innings. Not only has he kept teams off the board, but he’s allowed just one total hit in that span. That should bring the Mets back down to Earth in the first inning of this one.

The Braves, similarly, have not been good in the first inning. They rank 23rd in the league in first inning scoring despite being near the top of the league overall. That should be music to Nolan McLean’s ears. He enters action in the top 25 of the league in ERA (3.51) as well as the top 10 of strikeouts (156). A lot of that can be in thanks to his July that saw him put up an ERA under 2.00 while striking out 10.38 per nine innings.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 11: No (-125)

Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals

First Pitch – 7:45 pm EST
Busch Stadium – St. Louis, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Phillies are first to the plate in our second NRFI selection. While they have been an above average team in terms of their offensive production, we’re going to put our faith in the pitching for the Cardinals. Andre Pallante toes the rubber on Tuesday. He’s been on fire over his last three outings. In the 18.2 innings that he’s worked, he’s allowed just three earned runs. That comes out to a 1.45 ERA in that span. With many of those offenses being more potent than the Phillies, I like his chances to get us through the first three outs.

To close this one out, we’ll lean on a pitcher that sits in the top three of the current odds for NL Cy Young. Cristopher Sanchez would likely be the odds on favorite if Jacob Misiorowski wasn’t doing unprecedented things. He’s got a 2.65 ERA and has fanned 174 batters in 149.2 innings. He leads the league in wins and hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start in over a month. The Cardinals are a below average run scoring team and are unlikely to deal with Sanchez well here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 11: No (-115)

Bonus Pick: Mariners/Yankees NRFI (-135)
