MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 4

Athletics vs. Cincinnati Reds

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Great American Ballpark – Cincinnati, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV

Brady Singer is first on the bump for this Tuesday NRFI action. Maybe his 4.35 ERA or ten losses don’t scream confidence for this one, but he was absolutely filthy in the month of July. Over the course of the month, he threw 30.1 innings and maintained a 2.37 ERA – all while seeing an uptick in his strikeout numbers. He runs into the Athletics in the midst of a five-game losing streak. They have been particularly brutal at the plate in that stretch – scoring just 13 runs for a 2.60 per game average.

Cincinnati is much hotter with the bats lately, but this is still a well-below average offense. They rank 24th in the majors in terms of run scoring and rank just above lackluster offenses like Kansas City. That should be music to the ears of JT Ginn, who toes the rubber for the Athletics on Tuesday. He’s been solid this year with a 3.46 ERA and his last start put him over 100 strikeouts on the year. That last start also saw him throw 6.1 scoreless innings, holding the high scoring Nationals to just one hit. This Reds team shouldn’t be much harder than that.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 4: No (-120)

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – MLB TV

While we had some offenses to fade in the first game, this NRFI play is much more about tailing good arms. The Pirates happen to be one of the best teams in the league when it comes to scoring runs. However, it is worth mentioning, they are below average in the first inning. They are about to be far below that mark when Logan Henderson takes the hill. The 24-year old rookie appears to be the real deal. Through nine starts this year, he has a 2.66 ERA and 54 strikeouts (11.05 per nine innings). Since being called up in July, he has 29 strikeouts in just 21.0 innings and nobody fans more than the Pirates. This should be a showcase game for him.

Milwaukee is similarly tough when it comes to their lineup, but I’m all-in on Jared Jones. His 3.81 ERA might make you look twice, but take that second look at his July statistics. In 27.0 innings, he fanned 30 and put up a 2.00 ERA. In that span, he never allowed more than four hits in a start – and only 11 in the whole month. If he keeps that trajectory in his first August start, this NRFI should cash without a sweat.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 4: No (-140)

Bonus Pick: White Sox/Red Sox NRFI (-115)

Looking to put together a three-pick parlay? This extra play may just be the piece that you’re looking for. Throw it together with the other two to net a three-pick parlay for +487.
