MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 27

Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers

First Pitch – 2:45 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, TX
Broadcast – ESPN

The matinee game features perhaps the best NRFI spot of the day. The Mariners get first ups here and they have been pretty brutal at the plate all year. They rank 28th in the majors with 4.02 runs per game and also rank in the bottom third of the league when it comes to scoring in the first inning. That’s music to the ears of Kumar Rocker, who has found his stuff over the last few starts. He’s held opponents to three or less runs in four of his last five starts. Additionally, he is coming off his best start of the year – holding the White Sox to just one hit over 6.0 innings.

The Rangers haven’t been much better in terms of run  scoring this year. They rank in the bottom third of the league in run scoring and have struggled scoring on the Rangers all year. They’ve averaged just 3.78 runs per game over the nine games they’ve played this year. Now they get George Kirby at the worst possible time. He’s allowed just five earned runs over his last four starts – which comes out to a 1.73 ERA in that span. He should have no problem keeping them quiet in the first inning here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 27: No (-125)

New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Rate Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Yankees were once one of the most feared offenses in the league. However, they’ve scored more than five runs just twice since June 17th, which has dropped them all the way to 10th in the league in scoring. It’s been even worse since the All-Star break. They’ve scored just 26 runs in that span – posting a dismal 2.89 run per game average. That’s good news for Noah Schultz, who maybe doesn’t have the season averages that we’re looking for. He has shortened up his walk totals though and we’re all for fading the Yankees right now.

In the bottom of the first, we’re tailing Max Fried. We’re okay with the fact that the White Sox are an above average team at the plate this year because Fried has been himself. His 5.0 scoreless innings against the Pirates last game helped to get his ERA back under 3.00. He also only allowed one hit in that outing. If that version of Fried shows up, I’d take him to get anybody out.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 27: No (-120)

Bonus Pick: Guardians/Reds NRFI (-120)
