UAE Warriors Catchweight Fight: Victor Nunes vs Tumelo Manyamala
Card Start Time: Thursday (7/23), 11:00am EST (UFC Fight Pass)
When sportsbooks cook up lines for regional cards, a lot of time the name value of having fought for a major promotion sways the line. Bettors will flock to a name they’ve seen, especially if that memory has a UFC connection to it.
That may be the case with the line in this 130lbs catchweight fight. Tumelo Manyamala appeared on the 33rd season of The Ultimate Fighter. He was hyped by Daniel Cormier as this untouchable striker, but ultimately struggled to keep the fight standing for very long. Roybert Echeverria walked through him on the ground to pick up a rear naked choke and keep his tournament short. That’s also nothing new for Manyamala whose only other loss was to noted grappler Mark Climaco.
While the record and the name recognition of Victor Nunes appears to lag behind, he has the right skill set to replicate those losses. If you look back at his fight with Ali Taleb – who is actually in the co-main event of this card – he worked his wrestling in a way that gives me plenty of confidence here. Add in that he has power for himself on the feet and I love the underdog play for Thursday morning.
