England vs. Argentina

England and Argentina meet on Wednesday for the next chapter of their cross continental rivalry. Dating back to an ugly quarterfinals matchup in 1966, there is no love lost between these two squads. With these teams already having a bit of a reputation for being physical, I would expect nothing less in this one.
That physical style of play should favor the English in this one. Not only do they have more size, but have shown that they are better at playing through the contact. Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane have been an impressive combination for England during the tournament. They have played historically well off of each other and create one of the best two-headed attacks in the tournament. Argentina has had defensive struggles over their last four matches – giving up six goals in that span.
In addition to liking England’s chances of putting up a multi-goal game, I don’t necessarily trust Argentina to do the same. While they managed to overcome all of the aforementioned goals to win those games, they have consistently been digging themselves holes. Egypt, famously, had a 2-0 lead with only minutes to play. While Argentina’s late pressure was enough, one has to ask if it would be with a formidable defense anchored by Jordan Pickford. As a result, I like England to advance in this one.
