MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 10

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
PNC Park – Pittsburgh, PA
Broadcast – MLB TV

We’ll kick off the NRFI with a pitcher who has been white-hot lately. Over the last four starts, Braxton Ashcraft has held opposing teams to one or less runs in three of them. That’s helped him move his ERA down to 3.24 for the year. Additionally, he has not had a game in that span where he struck out less than seven – averaging 8.25 per game. Milwaukee is a solid hitting team, but you have to trust what Pittsburgh has been able to do lately.

In the bottom of the inning, the Pirates come to the plate. They have solid hitting stats for the season, but struggled in the last two games against the Braves. Both Grant Holmes and Bryce Elder, who had struggled mightily in his last few starts, kept them in check early. Now they’ll face a pitcher who hasn’t had many struggles recently. Over his last three starts, Brandon Sproat has only allowed three total runs (a 1.76 ERA in that stretch). He’s also struck out 21 in his last 15.1 innings. That combination is the type of arm you want to put your faith in when it comes to an NRFI play.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 10: No (-125)

Cleveland Guardians vs. Miami Marlins

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
loanDepot park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV

Fresh off of breaking the Marlins record for strikeouts, Sandy Alcantara gets the ball against the Guardians. Alcantara has had a bit of an up-and-down season, but has lowered his ERA to 4.00. It should help that he gets a showdown with Cleveland here. They are one of just two teams that are not averaging at least 4.00 runs per game – San Diego being the other. They’ve also been worse recently – having scored just 18 runs in their last five games (3.60 runs per game).

The bottom of will see a bit more of a high powered offense with Miami at home. They are a middle of the pack offense in most meaningful categories, but will have to deal with one of the toughest arms in the American League. Parker Messick enters action on Friday with a 2.80 ERA. He’s already racked up 109 strikeouts and is considered one of the top choices for AL Rookie of the Year voting. He should be able to get us a few quick outs to get this thing to cash.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 10: No (-135)
