Daily World Cup Best Bets – July 4th

Canada vs. Morocco

Kickoff – 1:00 pm EST
NRG Stadium – Houston, Texas
Broadcast – FOX

The co-host Canada is on a historic run, winning a knockout game for the first time in its country’s history. However, when you look at the run, there is maybe a bit more luck of the draw than talent on the pitch. A win over Qatar and a draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina hardly moves the needle for me. Additionally, their lack of possession and ability to finish in the round of 32 against South Africa does not give me much in the way of hope for a competitive game with Morocco.

Morocco, on the other hand, has shown that they are just as good as their FIFA ranking suggests. Not only did they manage to take out the Netherlands in penalties, but they also held Brazil to an early 1-1 draw. Both of their wingbacks – Achraf Hakimi and Noussair Mazraoui – have been huge in upsetting opposing attacks. That stinginess in the back should make this one both low scoring and an easy win for Morocco.

Best Bets for Canada/Morocco: Morocco ML (-130) and Under 2.5 Goals (-110)

Paraguay vs. France

Kickoff – 5:00 pm EST
Lincoln Financial Field – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – FOX

Paraguay has played lock down defense all tournament and it’s led them here. Their ability to park the bus gave them a chance, and ultimately the victory, against Germany. However, the downfall to this is that Paraguay has not scored more than a single goal in any contest during this World Cup. That lack of offense simply won’t hold against France.

On the other side of things, France is as good of an offense as we’ve seen in some time. They’ve scored at least three goals in every game during this tournament – and in the last friendly as well. Kylian Mbappé now has to tack on a couple if he wants to overtake Lionel Messi for the Golden Ball. After an early goal from France, Paraguay will have to open up a bit. When they do, I expect Mbappé to blow it up.

Best Bets for Paraguay/France: France -1.5 (-155) and Over 3.5 Goals (+155)
