MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 2

Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – MLB TV

You’re going to pay a little more juice that we usually like on this NRFI, but with this pitching matchup it is still a value. Jacob Misiorowski, who currently sits at -225 to win the NL Cy Young, gets the ball first in this one. He currently is first in the majors in ERA, strikeouts and WHIP. When he struck out seven Braves two starts ago, it was just the second time all year that he dipped below eight. That’s to go along with six times in which he’s hit double figures. Cincinnati is in the bottom third of the league in run scoring and are unlikely to upset the run that he’s on.

Chase Burns may not get the hype that Misiorowski has, but he has also been stellar this season. His 2.36 ERA puts him in the top ten of the majors and he’s struck out at least seven in every game for the last two months. In the last two months, he’s been even better – posting a 2.18 ERA in that span. Milwaukee is one of the better offenses in the league, but have tapered off in their last five. They are averaging just 4.20 runs per game in that span, which should make it even easier for Burns to pitch his way through this one.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 2: No (-180)

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV

We won’t see quite the same pitching matchup in our second selection – or anywhere in the league this month for that matter. However, there are still some arms you can trust here. Slade Cecconi had a June more people should be talking about. Not once in the month did he allow more than two runs and he came out the other side with a 1.88 ERA. A big piece of that was getting more ground balls, which should help him here against the White Sox.

To close out this NRFI, we get a Guardians team that has struggled at the plate. They are dead last in the majors with 3.80 runs per game. In addition, their 0.41 first inning runs per game puts them in 29th. That should make them easy work for Davis Martin, who enters the game with a 3.00 ERA on the year. He’s allowed just one total run in his last two starts and the Guardians aren’t the team that are going to break that trend.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 2: No (-120)
