MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 27

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 1:00 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – ABC

This series has done us dirty for the first two games of the series, but the trends support an NRFI here. The Yankees now have a seven-game run where they haven’t put up five runs. They are averaging 2.57 runs per game in that stretch and have been particularly bad in this series. The Red Sox, meanwhile, are just one of three teams that have not cracked 4.00 runs per game. Additionally, they are the worst team in the league in first inning scoring.

To add to matters here, we get another solid pitching matchup. Jake Bennett gets the ball for the Red Sox and he’s settled in nicely. In his last two starts (11.1 innings), he fanned 14 and allowed just two runs. His counterpart will be Gerrit Cole, who hasn’t been 100% himself yet this year. Still, he’s a top of the line starter against a bad lineup.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 27: No (-120)

Washington Nationals vs. Baltimore Orioles

First Pitch – 7:05 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, MD
Broadcast – MLB TV

An NRFI with the Nationals can be a big ask as they are currently the best run scoring team in the league. Despite that, we’re riding with this one thanks to the pitching. The Orioles will send out Brandon Young to the bump and he’s been incredible lately. He has allowed just four runs over his last three starts – which includes a 5.0 inning, one-run start against a tough Dodgers lineup. The Nationals may be statistically better than the Dodgers, but are far less dangerous as a whole.

In the bottom of the inning, we’ll have to worry about the bats much less. The Orioles rank in the bottom third of the league in first inning scoring. They’ve also slowed way down across the full game lately. In their last three games, they’ve managed to put up just 10 runs. That should be music to Foster Griffin’s ears as he toes the rubber on Saturday night. He’s allowed just one run in each of his last four starts and dropped his ERA to 3.15. He should be able to keep that going and get us a cash on the play.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 27: No (-110)
