Daily World Cup Best Bets – June 20th

Netherlands vs. Sweden

Kickoff – 1:00 pm EST
NRG Stadium – Houston, Texas
Broadcast – FOX

The line for this game is likely staying as close as it is because of the difference in results. Sweden picked up a four goal win in their opener and the Netherlands gave away a late goal for a draw. Despite that, we see the Netherlands enter as a slight favorite – a line that should likely be much wider.

Tunisia might be one of the very worst teams in this tournament. Despite that, they outpossessed Sweden during a four-goal loss. That’s all I need to know as they enter a game against the Netherlands, who controlled all the action with a tough Japanese squad. Cody Gakpo, Donyell Malen and Teun Koopmeiners just create too much offense for Sweden to keep them off the board all day.

As shaky as Kristoffer Nordfeldt has looked in the net at times, I expect this one to be wildly one-sided.

Best Bets for Netherlands/Sweden: Netherlands -1.5 (+190) and Over 2.5 Goals (-155)

Germany vs. Ivory Coast

Kickoff – 4:00 pm EST
BMO Field – Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Broadcast – FOX

Germany came out the gate with a phenomenal 7-1 victory. While the goal they conceded early made the squad wince before putting into high gear, they looked exactly like a contender should look. With that being said, I think the books are making a mistake with these lines.

The Ivory Coast was insanely good on defense. Ecuador managed just a single shot on goal in the opener. Besiktas’ defender Emmanuel Agbadou shut everything down and made it an easy night for their keeper. While he isn’t going to keep Germany off the board entirely, I do think he can help keep this one close enough to cover the spread.

Best Bets for Germany/Ivory Coast: Ivory Coast +1.5 (-175) and Under 2.5 Goals (+140)

Ecuador vs. Curacao

Kickoff – 8:30 pm EST
Arrowhead Stadium – Kansas City, Missouri
Broadcast – FS1

I was not impressed by Ecuador in their opener. They struggled to put up any real offense against Ivory Coast and, as previously mentioned, only put one shot on net. However, Curacao is not a World Cup level team. Their defense struggled to win challenges, their keeper was out of position more than once, and nobody looked like they knew what to do up front.

Ecuador should be able to score a slew of early goals and coast to a victory.

Best Bets for Ecuador/Curacao: Ecuador -2.5 (+100) and Over 2.5 Goals (-185)
