Daily World Cup Best Bets – June 12th

Canada vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina

Kickoff – 3:00 pm EST
BMO Field – Toronto, Canada
Broadcast – FOX

The second host kicks off at the beginning of Friday up North. The Canadian National Team has their first game in Group B action. In their final tune ups before the World Cup, their offense really lagged behind what was expected of them. They managed just six goals in a five game stretch and really struggled to put things on net. In their last game with Ireland, they shot the ball 21 times and managed just two on goal. Their lone goal in that game came on an own goal from Jake O’Brien. Not really all that inspiring heading into this home fixture.

The scarier thing for this Canadian offense is just how good Bosnia-Herzegovina has been on defense. Bosnia-Herzegovina had to qualify late, so they racked up a few more meaningful games rather than friendlies. In those two games, they held both Wales and Italy to a goal a piece – ultimately beating both in shootouts. Their defensive possession and ability to make runs off of it really keep opposing attacks at bay.

When you combine these two things, I’m expecting a low scoring game. You can get some great value on the game to feature one goal or less. Additionally, when you consider the form of guys like Haris Tabakovic in the Bundesliga coming into this one, I think they have a great chance for an upset. You can hedge a bit of those odds by grabbing half a goal at basically even money.

Best Bets for Canada/Bosnia-Herzegovina: Bosnia-Herzegovina -0.5 (-105) and Under 1.5 Goals (+180)

United States vs. Paraguay

Kickoff – 10:00 pm EST
SoFi Stadium – Inglewood, California
Broadcast – FOX

One home team that I am backing is the United States. Not just because I’m a homer, but also because I think this is a great spot for them. They ran a friendly with Paraguay back in November and picked up a 2-1 victory. In a hotly-contested game with plenty of cards, the United States seemed to carry the bulk of the chances. Giovanni Reyna was fresh off of injury then and should be even better now that he’s in top form. Not only should a fit Reyna help, but they’ll have more scoring opportunities with Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams to pressure this defense.

On top of just taking the United States moneyline, I also like the over here. The US has been challenging themselves with some tough opponents to get ready for this one, and are still scoring goals. Against a much less skilled Paraguay defense, they should rack some up quickly.

Best Bets for United States/Paraguay: United States ML (+110) and Over 2.5 Goals (+150)
