Daily World Cup Best Bets – June 11th
Mexico vs. South Africa
Kickoff – 3:00 pm EST
Estadio Banorte – Mexico City, Mexico
Broadcast – FOX
Host country Mexico gets the action started at 7,350 feet above sea level. A lot gets said about the elevation for these games, but I still feel like it’s understated how much it should impact this one. We’ve seen the Mexican squad start to pour things on heavily late in some of these international friendlies. They hung five goals on Serbia, four of which came after the first 45 minutes were up. We’ve also seen South Africa conceed some late goals in tune-ups – and against a pretty brutal level of competition. As we start to see the South African team wear down, I do expect a heavy scoring effort from Mexico.
If you’re looking to get away from all of the chalk here, check out the goal scoring props for Johan Vásquez. The defenseman is currently +1700 to score anytime. Additionally, not only has Vásquez score in each of his last two international friendlies, but he also netted one in his last game for Genoa in Italian Serie A. We’ll look for him and the rest of Mexico to blow this one out.
Best Bets for Mexico/South Africa: Mexico -1.5 (+125) and Over 2.5 Goals (+115)
South Korea vs. Czechia
Kickoff – 10:00 pm EST
Estadio Akron – Guadalajara, Mexico
Broadcast – FS1
South Korea enters this tournament as a favorite to advance and a small favorite against a tough Czechia team here. While the books are favoring them, I just can’t get past their recent scoring drought. In their four tune-up games leading in, they scored just six total goals. Five of them came against a lackluster Trinidadian team, who did not qualify here. That leaves one total goal against the likes of El Salvador, Ivory Coast and Austria – which doesn’t inspire confidence here.
Czechia had a bit less time for friendlies due to needing the extra legs to qualify. They did that with a pair of shoutout wins over Denmark and Ireland. They kept each team to only one regulation goal and that was in large part to the play of keeper, Matěj Kovář. With the Bundesliga’s Robin Hranác locking things down in the middle, I expect Czechia to keep this one low scoring and to at least get a draw.
Best Bets for South Korea/Czechia: Czechia +0.5 (-215) and Under 1.5 Goals (+190)
