MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 8

New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Yankees may be a tough team to start out an NRFI play with – they are top five in run scoring – but they have been slow at the plate lately. In the last five games, they’ve scored just 19 total runs (or 3.8 per game). That’s well below the league average and a showdown with Gavin Williams is unlikely to help matters. Williams is third in the majors in strikeouts and has been particularly sharp lately. He has thrown 20.1 innings over his last three starts with 21 strikeouts and a 1.77 ERA. He should be able to get us a quick three outs, especially with Aaron Judge out of the lineup.

The bottom of the first features a Guardians lineup that has not been nearly as successful in the early going. They rank 24th in runs scored this year with 4.06 per game. They are also below average when it comes to scoring in the first inning. The Yankees will look to keep them down with Will Warren. The righty has been sharp on the year with a 3.22 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 64.1 innings. He didn’t allow an earned run over 6.0 innings last game and he should be able to keep that trend going here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 8: No (-130)

Washington Nationals vs. San Francisco Giants

First Pitch – 9:45 pm EST
Oracle Park – San Francisco, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Speaking of teams that have scary numbers, the Nationals are actually one of the few teams higher than the Yankees in terms of run scoring. However, much like the Yankees, they have been struggling lately. They have scored three runs or less in four of their last six games and are fresh off being held to one by the Diamondbacks and Michael Soroka. Now they face Logan Webb who has found his way in his last two starts. He’s allowed just one run on four hits in those two appearances, which is a good sign for the NRFI.

The bottom of the first sees Miles Mikolas get the ball. While his last game was nothing to write home about, he had been quite good in the few starts before that. His May ERA came out to 3.52 and he allowed more than two earned runs in a game just once. The Giants lineup should help him find some stability here. They rank in the bottom third of run scoring and are even worse in the first inning (ranked 26th in the league).

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 8: No (-125)
