MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 7
Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins
First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Target Field – Minneapolis, MN
Broadcast – MLB TV
First on the bump on Sunday is Connor Prielipp. At one point, he looked like a legitimate Rookie of the Year candidate. However, he’s fallen on some hard times with three rough starts in a row. Some of that can be excused by the fact that he had to face the White Sox – who rank 7th in run scoring – in back-to-back games. He’ll get a reprieve here with the Royals coming to town. They rank 29th in runs scored this year and are only in front of the Padres. With just 3.89 runs per game, I like the chances that Prielipp can get through the first for us.
In the bottom of the first, Noah Cameron hits the hill. He’s actually turned his fortunes around in the last three games. After a rocky start, he’s now posted a 1.50 ERA over his last three games. Those games also include 20 strikeouts in just 18.0 innings. The Twins have been a solid team at the plate, but have struggled in the first inning this year. They rank in the bottom third of the league in first inning runs, which should let Cameron find his footing.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 7: No (-120)
Cincinnati Reds vs. St. Louis Cardinals
First Pitch – 2:15 pm EST
Busch Stadium – St. Louis, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV
We get another hot pitcher in the top of the first of this one. Michael McGreevy might not be a household name yet, but he does carry a 2.98 ERA into Sunday’s action. Many of those recent starts have been against top offenses in the National League. This one will not as the Reds are a below average offense who has struggled as of late. They’ve scored just 3.20 runs per game over their last five, which is a good sign that McGreevy could keep it going.
Next to the hill, we’ll see the return of Rhett Lowder, who comes off the IL for Sunday. He struggled with a shoulder injury before going down, so his numbers are not really indicative of what he’s capable of. His high velocity should play well against a Cardinals team that ranks 18th in first inning runs. They’re overall a below average offensive team in most categories and that just might be what Lowder needs to find his legs again.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 7: No (-120)
