MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 29

Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Citi Field – Queens, NY
Broadcast – ESPN

First to the plate in this NRFI selection is the Marlins. They’ve stumbled a bit offensively in the last two games of the series with the Blue Jays. They managed just one run in each of the last two games, which dropped them under league average in scoring. Now they have to face Freddy Peralta, who has been one of the few steady pieces for the Mets. He carries a 3.52 ERA with 63 strikeouts in just 61.1 innings on the year. In addition to that, he faced the Marlins the last time out and gave us an NRFI in that one.

The numbers for Marlins hurler Max Meyer look quite a bit better. He’s a perfect 5-0 on the year and enters Friday with a 2.52 ERA. He’s fanned 68 guys in 60.2 innings and appears to be locked in as one of the Marlins’ best options. Those numbers should improve against the Mets. They have put up just 3.82 runs per game, which is good enough for 27th in the majors. Meyer had no trouble with them when he faced them last – going 7.0 innings with no runs and just one hit. Let’s run it back and get another NRFI out of it in the process.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 29: No (-155)

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Houston Astros

First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Daikin Park – Houston, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV

While you’ve likely heard the names Meyer and Peralta, this one has some less known names. Still, there are positive looks out there for both of the guys on the bump.

The first of those guys stepping on the rubber will be Kai-Wei Teng. The Taiwanese righty has been lights out recently. In his last two starts (11.0 innings), he’s not allowed a run and has struck out 13 batters. Not only that, but he’s only allowed four hits in that span. I’d take him to get out of the first against just about anyone right now.

In the bottom of the inning, we get another youngster. 25-year old Coleman Crow gets the nod for just the third time in his career. The first two went well – putting up 10.1 innings and just three runs for a 2.61 ERA. He’ll get some added help in the form of an underperforming Houston offense. They rank 14th in runs scored this year and have not been what most expected.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 29: No (-115)
