MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 26

Atlanta Braves vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 6:45 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Kicking off this NRFI play is one of the very best offenses in baseball. It might make some nervous to play with a team that is so dangerous with the bats, but there is a lot working for us here. Firstly, the Braves went cold at the end of their series with the Nationals. They scored just six total runs in that three-game series and five of them were in the very first game. Additionally, they haven’t been nearly as good in the first inning – ranking 15th in the league in first inning runs. Ranger Suarez should be able to keep that track going. He’s got a 2.40 ERA on the year and has only allowed one run in his last four outings (21.2 innings).

In the bottom of the first, we have to worry about the bats far less. The Red Sox are the worst team in the league when it comes to scoring in the first inning. They’re only a touch better over the course of the game. Their 3.73 runs per game have them ranked 29th in the league. Spencer Strider should be able to keep it going. Not only is he back to his old self, sporting a 3.00 ERA on the year, but he shut down the Red Sox two weeks ago when he saw them. He kept them scoreless through 5.0 innings before allowing a lone run in the 6th.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 26: No (TBD)

Seattle Mariners vs. Athletics

First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Sutter Health Park – Sacramento, CA
Broadcast – ESPN

The late night play on the NRFI starts with the Mariners at the dish. They’re in the bottom third of the league in run scoring with just 4.04 per game. We’ll look to Luis Severino to keep that run going. His ERA may not inspire confidence out of the gate, but that’s really a story about how badly he start the year. In his last six starts, he’s held his opponents to two or less runs in five of them. In those six starts, he’s posted a 3.16 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 37.0 innings. That’s the kind of arm you want for an NRFI spot.

Another arm we like for an NRFI spot is Emerson Hancock. He’s brought his ERA down to 3.07 on the year and has been doing an exceptional job of keeping the ball in the park. In 24.0 innings in the month of May, he’s allowed just one dinger and stuck out 28 batters. The Athletics are an above average hitting home run team, so being able to keep them in the park should be a huge boon for Hancock. Additionally, they rank in the bottom third of the league in first inning scoring.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 26: No (TBD)
