Seattle and Kansas City turned out to be exactly the pitching duel we predicte – not only was it an NRFI, but we got six scoreless innings to start the game. Now, we have some NRFI bets for May 23.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 23
New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
loanDepot park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Mets have first ups in this one and they’re an offense to fade this year. They rank 23rd in the league in terms of first inning run scoring and 25th when it comes to scoring runs across the whole game. They’ve been even worse in this last stretch. Over the last three games, they’ve scored just 2.33 runs per game. Max Meyer will be the one looking to extend that misery. He’s been outstanding this year for the Marlins. He carries a 2.85 ERA into Saturday’s action with 60 strikeouts in 53.2 innings. Getting three quick outs against this Mets club shouldn’t be an issue.
The bottom of the inning might be a bit more of a sweat, but not much. The Marlins are better than the Mets at the plate, but are still a below average offense. They, too, have been on a skid, scoring just nine total runs during a four-game losing streak (2.25 runs per game). They’ll also have a tough pitching matchup with Freddy Peralta getting the ball for the Mets. He’s got a respectable 3.31 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 54.1 innings. He gave us an NRFI against the Yankees last game, so this one should be even easier.

Seattle Mariners vs. Kansas City Royals

We cashed on the limited offense in this series on Friday, and we’ll ride it again here on Saturday. Seattle has been a below average offense all year. Their recent run has dropped them to 23rd in the league in terms of run scoring with 4.08 per game. The last five games has been even less kind for them as they’ve put up just 3.60 per game in that span. Stephen Kolek might not be the name we search for when looking for an NRFI, but he has been solid and is coming off his best outing. He threw 6.1 scoreless innings against the Cardinals last time out and only allowed five total baserunners.
To close out this NRFI, we’ll see the Royals come to the dish. They are stuggling with the bats as well – being one of the six teams in the league that haven’t managed to crack 4.00 runs per game. Additionally, they’re ranked 27th in the league in first inning scoring. George Kirby will try to bury them further on Saturday. He did get hit around a bit by the Padres last game, but prior to that was on an excellent roll. He had put up six straight games allowing two runs or fewer. He should be able to start a new streak this weekend.
