MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 10

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV

With the washout on Saturday, and the same pitching matchup on Sunday, we’ll run back the pick for this one.

Is there anything we’ve loved this season as much as a Red Sox NRFI play? The squad is now 39 games into the season and have scored just nine first inning runs all year. That’s an ugly look that puts them in 29th place in the majors. Now they face a tough customer in Nick Martinez, who has been lights out for the Rays. He’s sporting a 1.71 ERA on the season and has allowed just two earned runs in the last 20.0 innings that he’s thrown. He should be able to keep the Red Sox quiet for at least three outs on Sunday.

On the flip side of things, the Red Sox are a great NRFI team because of all the arms that they employ. Payton Tolle happens to be the arm for them to kick off the weekend and he’s coming off of one of the very best starts of his life. He went 7.0 innings last time out and kept the Tigers scoreless. He also managed to pick up eight strikeouts in the process. The first inning should be an easy one for him as he faces Tampa Bay. They rank 24th in the majors in first inning scoring.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 10: No (TBD)

Seattle Mariners vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Rate Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV

Kicking off this NRFI play will be the bats of the Mariners. They have been fairly brutal as of late, scoring three runs or fewer in four of their last six games. That run has dropped them into the bottom third of the league in terms of run scoring. That should make things easy for Davis Martin who has been shoving this season. He has one run allowed or fewer in four straight starts – dropping his ERA to 1.64. He’s also coming off his best outing of the season, where he went 7.0 scoreless with 10 strikeouts. This Mariners offense should be a cake walk for him.

The White Sox haven’t been much better on offense. They rank 19th in the league in run scoring going into the weekend. We’ll lean on Logan Gilbert to do the honors against them. While the Braves roughed him up a bit in his last start, that’s really not much to worry about – the Braves seem to be doing that to just about everyone. Prior to that, he posted a 2.96 ERA in the month of April and has fanned 43 guys in 44.0 innings.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 10: No (TBD)
