MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 26
Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, MD
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Red Sox will be hitting with plenty of fresh faces in the clubhouse on Sunday. On Saturday, the team fired pretty much anything that wasn’t nailed down. While a firing has been known to spark an offense, it’s usually not the entire coaching staff going at once. It obviously makes sense given that they are a bottom third offense. Also, for our NRFI purposes they’ve struggled in the first innings. They’re putting up just 0.19 first inning runs per game, which puts them in 28th. Kyle Bradish gets the ball for this one, and he’s allowed two or less runs in four of his five starts.
Baltimore hasn’t been much better in the first inning. Their 0.33 first inning runs per game has them sitting in 25th in the majors. Now they’ll have to deal with Connelly Early. He’s allowed just eight earned runs across five starts this season – sporting a 2.88 ERA in the process. Not only that, but the strikeout stuff has been there for the lefty as well. He’s fanned 24 batters in 25.0 innings this year so far. He should be able to get us a clean first inning.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 26: No (-145)
Athletics vs. Texas Rangers
First Pitch – 7:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV
We rode this series on Saturday to an NRFI cash and we’ll double down for this one.
The Athletics continue to be one of the worst hitting teams in the first inning. They currently rank in 27th place in the majors with 0.27 first inning runs per game. They had just two total runs in the first inning through their first 25 games. They’ll face Vanderbilt-product Kumar Rocker as he looks to continue his hot start. He hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a game yet this year and has a 3.48 ERA to show for it. He also had a season-high six strikeouts the last time he faced the Athletics.
In the bottom of the first, we get the return of JT Ginn. Not only did Ginn give us a clean first inning against the Rangers two weeks ago, but he has been solid in that time frame too. Over the last two weeks, he’s logged 14.2 innings with 13 strikeouts. He is sporting a 3.07 ERA in that span as well. Now he’ll have the pleasure of dealing with this underwelming Texas lineup. They’re tied with the Orioles for 25th in the league in first inning scoring. They also rank in the bottom third of the league in overall scoring as well.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 26: No (-110)
