MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 21

Cincinnati Reds vs. Tampa Bay Rays

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Tropicana Field – St. Petersburg, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV

Kicking off the top of the first down in Florida is a Reds team that has struggled with the bats this season. Despite sitting in first place, they have a -3 run differential and rank 26th overall in runs per game. Now they’ll face Steven Matz, who has been sharp in each of his last three starts. The Rays lefty has allowed just four total earned runs over a span of 16.1 innings. He’s also fanned 19 batters in that time frame. With as good as he’s been and as bad as the Reds have been, we should get a sweat-free top of the first.

The bottom of the inning shouldn’t be much harder. While the Rays have been a little better at the plate, they are still just a middle of tha pack squad when it comes to most offensive categories. In addition, Chase Burns will be on the bump and he has been as advertised this year. He’s tosse 22.1 innings this year and has 22 strikeouts. He’s allowed more than one run in just one start all year and twice has held his opponents scoreless.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 21: No (-145)

Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals

First Pitch – 6:45 pm EST
Nationals Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – MLB TV

It’s a bit risky to play a Braves NRFI this year. They’ve scored the second highest runs per game over this season. trailing only the Dodgers. However, they have been pretty bad when it comes to scoring in the first inning. They rank 19th in that category with just 0.48 runs per game. Now they get Foster Griffin, who has been stellar this year. He’s sporting a 3.05 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. He’s allowed more than two earned runs just once all year and should be able to get us three quick outs on Tuesday.

The Nationals are just about equally scary at the plate this year. They rank just behind the Braves in runs per game. However, they’re on a bit of a skid – having scored just 4.33 runs per game over their last three. Reyanldo Lopez should make live harder for them as well. He’s rocking a 2.18 ERA this year with 19 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. The Braves have won every one of his starts and he should put them, and our NRFI, in a good position to do that again.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 21: No (-125)
