My winning play is from this American League East rivalry game, as the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays resume their hostilities for the 2026 season. And the Rays long nightmare of having to play in the Yankees spring training home is over, as their home field, Tropicana Field, is up and running again this season.
However, being back in their familiar digs hasn’t been very beneficial for the Rays yet this season, as they are only 1-2 at home. They actually haven’t been much better on the road, only going 4-5. And the advanced stats have Tampa Bay 0.8 runs per game worse than the “average team”.
The Yankees, meanwhile, are doing Yankees things, ranking third in the majors in advanced stats, worth 2.2 runs per game more than the average team. And I expect them to do Yankees things tomorrow night and kick off their season series with the Rays with a W, and win us our best bet.
