MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Cage Warriors 202
Cage Warriors Lightweight Fight: Samuel Silva vs Omiel Brown
Card Start Time: Saturday (3/14), 1:30pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
On Saturday, Cage Warriors gets a chance to unify their lightweight titles in a highly anticipated bout. Samuel Silva put the championship on hold as he tried his luck on Dana White’s Contender Series. After falling short, he’s back to defend against the man who took up the interim mantle in his stay – Omiel Brown.
Despite being the interim champion, Brown enters Saturday as a sizable favorite. Despite the number hovering just over 2-to-1, I think there is still tons of value to have on the Brown side. He has a number of skills that play up well against Silva, chief among them is his ability to stick and move. Silva likes someone who will get into a firefight with him. He uses that to create opening and land big shots. Brown has been good about staying out of those kinds of fights and using his opponents aggression against him.
Additionally, Silva has always used that pressure in conjunction with his cardio to take opponents out late. He’s always been able to swim in the deep end better than most that he comes across, but that may not be the case on Saturday. Should this reach the championship rounds, I actually favor the cardio of Brown.
Between the striking advantage and his ability to work late, I think Brown nullifies all the things that make Silva dangerous. As a result, he should find an easy victory here.
