Headlining the event is the featherweight division’s stalwart, Josh Emmett, as he tries to defend his spot in the rankings against the fast-rising Kevin Vallejos. Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Vegas 114
UFC Bantamweight Fight: Hecher Sosa vs Luan Lacerda
Start Time: Saturday (3/14) 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)
In one of the early prelims, we get a Dana White’s Contender Series debut from a Spanish fighter who wowed me on the show. Even though I projected him to win on the show, he blew me away with how well rounded he was.
Hecher Sosa has always been a solid grappler. The bulk of his wins have come by submission or TKOs on the ground. Of course, that was once again his path to victory on the show. He worked four takedowns into 15 minutes and picked up over two whole rounds of control time. While that did the trick for the fight, I actually also loved how good he looked on the feet. He fought Macksom Lee, who was a lanky striker, and Sosa still managed to get inside to get his hands on him.
The benefit to this fight is also the matchup. Luan Lacerda has struggled with his takedown defense in the past. Additionally, he dropped both of his first two fights in the UFC against tough wrestlers. I see Sosa making that three straight against the type in this one.
