Rules of the Contest
As with any survivor contest, the key is in making sure that you have the best options available to you at the end of the contest. In this case, there is an added twist that you have a field that gets cut in half each and every round, which means by the end of it, it will be slim pickings.
Each day of the NCAA Tournament, you need to make a correct pick about who will win their game, and the picks need to be in before tip-off of the last game of the day. You cannot reuse a team, so if the only team remaining is one that you picked earlier in the tournament, you are eliminated.
At the end of the Tournament, after One Shining Moment has played, you need to be the last Degen standing. If you are, congratulations! The pot is yours. If there are multiple entrants standing at the end of the Tournament, then the prize will be split among all remaining entrants. Also, if all entries are eliminated before the end of the tournament, then everyone who was eliminated on that last day will split the winnings. You can check out the full contest rules here.
Strategy
As you prepare for the contest, you need to make sure that you are doing your research and know the field. Subscribe to the Sports Gambling Podcast and the College Basketball Experience and listen in throughout the conference tournaments so you know the field. If you know the field, you can beat the field. Since this is a moneyline picks contest, you need to pick winners. Every day. You cannot do that if you do not know ball.
The key to winning this whole thing is going to be spotting some upsets. Not just the bracket busters in Round 1, but also the Sweet Sixteen underdogs taking down top dogs. If you can pick an upset or two, you will be in a great spot. Additionally, you cannot waste your National Champion picks in the early rounds. You need to keep some of them in reserve for the natty so you can clinch the pot late. If you burn through the National Champion teams too early, you run the risk of being eliminated for not having an eligible team. So, know the field, spot the upsets, and save your national championship contenders for later.
