MMA Regional Pick of the Week: KSW 115
KSW Bantamweight Fight: Sebastian Przybysz vs Vitalii Yakymenko
Card Start Time: Saturday (2/21), 1:00pm EST (Internet PPV)
KSW’s bantamweight champion Sebastian Przybysz has amassed an 11-3-1 record inside of the promotion. Fortunately for him, two of those three losses – and the draw for that matter – came against former champion Jakub Wiklacz, who has since moved on to the UFC. That’s allowed him to reign comfortably, winning the title in the first fight after the departure and defending it once already. However, he squares off with someone who has some similarities in the style here.
If you watch Przybysz’s losses to Wiklacz, a lot of it comes down to being the lesser of two wrestlers. His love for riskier jiu jitsu manuevers often leaves him in bottom positions against tough wrestlers. The payoff is that he often comes away with positions that allow him to finish the fight, even if that didn’t happen against the former champ.
Yakymenko should be able to follow that blueprint to hand the champ another loss. His wrestling has been incredible on the regional scene and he flattened UFC-veteran Rogério Bontorin with a hook last time out. Although he’ll be giving up some length here, I do think his skills play up in this matchup.
