After a rare week off, the UFC is up and running again this weekend, with the Octagon on the road, setting up in the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. But we have middleweights in the main event, so it may as well be an Apex fight card. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC Houston, I’ve got a live dog in the co-main event. UFC Fight Night: Strickland vs Hernandez (aka UFC Houston)
Start Time: 5:00 PM EST
Our co-main event at UFC Houston is a makeshift one, with Uros Medic filling in for Kevin Holland to face fellow welterweight Geoff Neal. And, despite what we know about backing short-notice fighters (generally, you don’t want to do it), I’m going with Medic in this matchup.
Medic is very much a kill-or-be-killed fighter, with all 15 of his pro MMA fights ending within the distance. With Neal just having been knocked out in his last fight, I like Medic and his immense power and striking ability to win this one and cash for us as a decent-sized dog.
