While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we head overseas for PFL Dubai from the United Arab Eirates for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: PFL Dubai
PFL Light Heavyweight Fight: Rob Wilkinson vs Luke Trainer
Card Start Time: Saturday (2/7), 9:00am EST (ESPN+)
Buried on the prelims of a solid PFL card this Saturday is a former champion looking to find his old form. While he has lost two straight, I’m still high on Rob Wilkinson. Once upon a time, he charged to the title, blasting through a trio of UFC veterans in the process. He’s since fallen to a pair of the tougher fighters in the division – Phil Davis and Dovlet Yagshimuradov.
Standing across from the former champ is rising prospect Luke Trainer. Although he doesn’t quite have the same resume, he has started to make a name for himself with some nasty jiu jitsu and by beating some highly touted wrestle-first fighters. His length is a problem for most people on the feet and especially on the mat.
However, I think this is a great example of writing a guy off too early. Not only do I think Wilkinson is still formidable, but Trainer has had issues with people who can match his reach on the feet. Wilkinson should be able to do that and be the better striker in the process. Plus, with a big number next to his name, you can’t ignore this value.
