MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Fury FC 114
Oktagon Light Heavyweight Fight: Jorick Montagnac vs Emilio Quissua
Card Start Time: Saturday (1/31), 12:00pm EST (Oktagon.tv)
On the main card of Oktagon 83, we have a battle of the big boys with a nice line to exploit. The relative newcomer to the promotion, Quissua, comes in with an undefeated record. The bookmakers saw that and immediately installed him as a big favorite. However, we think that’s a mistake.
A big part of why that’s a mistake is the weakness that we’ve seen in other promotions from Quissusa. If you watch his fights in UAE Warriors, he had trouble with some simple single leg takedowns and spent some time on bottom. While that didn’t cost him his perfect record in the past, he’s dealing with a much different beast now.
When you watch Montagnac fight, he brings a lot of strength to the game. Despite not having a ton of KOs on his record, he has rocked many opponents. Additionally, that strength transfers to the clinch, where he has been known to throw his opponents around and gets plenty of work done on top. I expect his to feel out Quissua with his jab until the opportunity comes to get this down. Once he has it there, I think he’s poised to make it an easy path to cashing as an underdog.
