The new year of UFC is finally underway. UFC 324 comes our way from Vegas this weekend and features an interim lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett. Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC 324
UFC Bantamweight Fight: Cameron Smotherman vs Ricky Turcios
Start Time: Saturday (1/24) 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)
While Cameron Smotherman’s stint in the UFC hasn’t been perfect, he has shown a lot of promise. After picking up a short notice win over Jake Hadley, he has dropped back-to-back fights. The problem in both of those following fights is that he had trouble with his opponent’s wrestling. The latter of the two fights was up against Ricky Simon, who he still managed to take a round off of.
On Saturday, he shouldn’t have an issue with the wrestling. While Ricky Turcios came up wrestling, he’s struggled to do much on the mat in the UFC. He has just five takedowns in 25 attempts. Meanwhile, his lower output has now cost him a few fights in a row as well.
The promise that Smotherman has shown gives me confidence here against Turcios. I expect that he should be able to turn this into a striking match and be the busier and more dangerous fighter.
