Harvard at Colgate
Start Time: 2:00 PM EST
Harvard comes into this game with a 6-7 overall record and a 2-5 road mark. The Crimson are 5-7 against the spread overall and 4-3 ATS on the road.
Colgate enters this matchup with a 6-6 overall record and a 2-1 mark at home. The Raiders are 7-3 ATS overall and 1-1 ATS at home.
Colgate is off a 30-point loss to Florida, while Harvard is off a 26-point loss to St. John’s. Both teams also have conference play on deck, so there isn’t a look-ahead spot to leverage.
These two teams are remarkably similar on paper. Both teams try to play a slower, more half-court-focused game. They can both shoot, and both teams struggle to stay in front of the opponent on defense. Colgate is better at perimeter defense, but can give up points inside the paint. The Raiders are also the better shooting team overall and get to play on their floor.
Colgate gets the nod here because they get to chuck it from deep against a team that allows opponents to shoot 34.8% from three-point range in their own gym. The Raiders have the better offense and should find open looks at home against Harvard’s mediocre perimeter defense. Let’s lock up Colgate to win and cover the 3.5 points.
Best Bet: Colgate -3.5
Florida A&M at Georgia Tech
Start Time: 2:30 PM EST
Florida A&M comes into this matchup with a 2-7 overall record and a 0-6 road mark. The Rattlers are also 4-4 overall ATS and 3-3 ATS on the road.
Georgia Tech enters this game with an 8-4 overall record and an 8-1 home mark. The Yellowjackets are 4-8 ATS overall and 3-6 ATS at home.
Florida A&M is off back-to-back 24-point losses against TCU and Tarleton State. Georgia Tech has won three in a row, but that sounds more impressive than it is. The Yellowjackets beat Lafayette by 14. They beat Marist by 11, and they also beat Monmouth by 12.
Florida A&M isn’t that different from Lafayette, and the Leopards were able to cover against Georgia Tech. In fact, the Rattlers are more athletic than Lafayette is.
That’s the play here. Florida A&M is unlikely to win outright, but they should be able to stay within the number against Georgia Tech. The Yellowjackets have played four games as a double-digit favorite. They’ve failed to cover all four games. The Yellowjackets will fail to cover this one, too. Lock up Florida A&M to lose by fewer than 18 points in this matchup.
Best Bet: Florida A&M +18
Santa Clara at Oregon State
Start Time: 6:30 PM EST
Santa Clara comes into this game with a 9-4 overall record and a 1-1 road record. The Broncos are 5-6-1 overall ATS and 1-1 ATS on the road.
Oregon State enters this matchup with a 7-6 overall record and 6-2 home mark. The Beavers are 5-8 overall ATS and 3-5 ATS at home.
We last saw Oregon State a week ago, and they beat Arizona State outright in Tempe, AZ. Santa Clara last played eight days ago when they lost outright at home against a really bad Loyola-Chicago team. It’s fair to say that enough time has passed to avoid the letdown vs. get-up spots on the schedule.
Santa Clara is viewed as a good offense, but they play an up-tempo style that leads to mistakes. They have a lot of possessions, but don’t always take advantage of opportunities that present themselves. The Broncos are also not a great shooting team. They only shoot 31.6% from deep. That’s 252nd in the nation.
Metrics actually really like Oregon State. They have a more efficient offense than the Broncos. The Beavers are the better shooting team from deep and at the free-throw line. Oregon State is also better defensively than it gets credit for. The Beavers can defend the perimeter, and their offensive efficiency against is the 74th-best mark in the nation.
Oregon State isn’t that far off from Santa Clara. If anything, Santa Clara is getting a bit too much respect because they’re more of a name brand. This is likely a one-possession game, and we’re catching two possessions. Lock up Oregon State at home to keep this game within the 5.5 points, and this is worth a sprinkle on the moneyline.
Best Bet: Oregon State +5.5
