MMA Regional Pick of the Week: CFFC 149
CFFC Middleweight Fight: Guram Gocashivili vs Chris Brown
Card Start Time: Saturday (12/20), 9:00pm EST (ESPN+)
It isn’t often that you get regional title fights with the challenger coming in as the favorite. However, that is precisely what we have here and I love the value we can get on the title changing hands.
Gocashivili enters his CFFC title fight with just four professional fights under his belt. Some are scared away by that fact and even further scared when they see that half of those took place nearly half a decade ago. However, what we have seen from him is very consistent wrestling with the ability to do damage on top. He also regularly trains with Alex Pereira and Yousri Belgaroui. Those striking looks shoul help him grow in the defensive striking department as he moves up to bigger challenges.
In this fight, he gets a geat matchup in champion Chris Brown. While Brown has passed all his recent tests, fighting wrestlers has always been a weak spot for him. Egor Kostyuchenko took him down regularly, but ultimately Brown passed that test due to Kostyuchenko’s inability to do damage. Gocashivili doesn’t have that problem and should cruise to a victory by doing damage and being in better positions.
