Feast Week is in the books, but the college hoops season rolls on. Monday’s slate is one of the smallest we’ve had to date. We don’t have any Top-25 teams on today’s schedule. However, we do have a lot of low-majors and mid-majors in action today. We’ve dug deeper than usual and found three college basketball picks that you’ll want to get in before tip-off.

College Basketball Preview, Picks, and Best Bets for December 1

Temple at Villanova
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
This game is a part of the Big 5 Classic, but is a true on-campus home game for Villanova. This game is also Temple’s first true road game, but it’s not really a travel spot for the Owls.
Villanova comes into this game at 5-1 overall and 4-2 ATS. The Wildcats are 4-0 at home and have won all four games by double digits.
Temple enters this matchup at 4-3 overall and 2-5 ATS. Only their loss against Boston College was close. The other two losses were by more than 15 points.
Villanova runs an efficient offense, plays solid defense, has the better roster, and dictates pace. The Wildcats should choke out the Temple offense and pull away from Temple. The Wildcats will also play on their floor and have the crowd. Villanova has taken these Big 5 games seriously, and they’ll want to run it up a little in front of their home crowd. Let’s lock up the Wildcats to get the win and cover at home.

Iona at Delaware
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
Iona comes into this game at 5-2 overall and 4-3 ATS. The Gaels have a true road win and cover on their resume as they went to UMKC and won by more than the spread.
Delaware enters this matchup at 2-4 overall, but is 3-2 ATS. The Blue Hens are 1-1 at home with a win over St. Peter’s and a loss against a DII program.
The handicap here is simple. Delaware is a poor defensive team. Iona should be able to get open looks against a Blue Hens team that struggles to stay in front of opponents. Delaware also can’t really score enough to get a lead. Iona should roll based on the style of play and skill level alone.
We also have Iona coming into this game off a bad loss in the Virgin Islands to Green Bay. The Gaels have been home for a week. They should come into this game prepared and looking to get back into the win column. The line is short because Delaware looked good in a win against a mediocre UNC-Greensboro team, and Iona is off a bad loss. This is also a true home game for Delaware, but the Gaels should roll. Let’s lock up Iona to get back into the win column and cover the 1.5 points.
Best Bet: Iona -1.5
West Georgia at Troy
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
West Georgia comes into this one at 4-3 overall and 5-1 ATS. The Wolves are 1-3 on the road. All three losses were buy game blowouts, but they did pick up a win on the road at Tennessee Tech.
Troy has just wrapped up their November World Tour. The Trojans come into this game with a 5-4 overall record and a 4-4 record ATS. Troy is 1-0 at home with a blowout win over a lower division program.
West Georgia has been an ATS darling. They’ve taken their share of lumps, but they’ve managed to stay within some of the beefier numbers they’ve been catching. They just lost to Georgia Tech by 16 in a game in which they were getting 21 points. The Yellowjackets aren’t as good as Troy on the offensive end, but they’re a top-100 defense, and the Wolves didn’t get totally choked out.
Troy is also entering a sleepy spot on their schedule. The Trojans only play twice from December 1st to December 13th. They have West Georgia and a lower division program before meeting UAB on the 14th. There’s a non-zero chance that the Trojans sleepwalk their way through this one, and the Wolves stay within the number. Let’s lock up West Georgia to cover this one.
