Budo Sento Championship 32 Featherweight Fight: Erik Perez vs Jose Alberto Quinones
Card Start Time: Friday (11/28), 8:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
Main eventing a fight card from Mexico on UFC Fight Pass is not just any pair of UFC veterans. Both men in this title fight saw some serious success in the big show – with three different 3-fight winning streaks between the two of them. Now they’ll duke it out for the Budo Sento “Leyendas” title.
I like the underdog in this fight for a couple of reasons. Firstly Quinones has always been an above average grappler. His winning streak largely came about due to his takedowns and he even managed to take down the likes of Nathaniel Wood and Louis Smolka on the way out. Apart from getting caught with some submissions, that’s been true of most of his recent fights as well.
On the other side of things, Perez left MMA nearly three years ago when his wrestling would no longer keep up with the opponents that he was facing. Although he was always touted as a great grappler, he hasn’t had a submission in over seven years and just one in the last 13 years. I think Quinones is a bit more in fight shape and the fact that we can get such a big number on him here is just an added bonus.
