College Basketball Preview, Picks, and Best Bets for November 20

college basketball picks November 20

Thursday night’s slate for college hoops doesn’t have the heavyweight matchups that we saw on the last two nights. However, it does have a mix of high-majors in buy games, mid-major clashes, and a few low-major games to consider for tonight’s card. We’ve gone through the slate and found three college basketball picks that you’ll want to grab before the games on November 20th tip off.

Illinois-Chicago at High Point

Start Time: 2:30 PM EST

This game is a part of the Sunshine Slam. All games in this tournament will take place at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, FL.

This line looks a little trappy, but sometimes you have to dive into the trap. If UIC went to High Point, this line would be double digits. However, this game is at a neutral site, but it’s only a 90-minute flight from Charlotte to Daytona Beach. High Point has fans who should travel. UIC doesn’t have quite the same rabid fan base.

High Point has an incredibly efficient offense and a lot of different roster combinations they can throw at UIC. The Panthers can get inside and shoot from range. High Point also has a defensive edge over the Flames. It’s hard to see an area where UIC has a clear edge over High Point. This could be a sleepy spot with 20 people watching, but High Point has the better roster and has been tested already. Lock up the Panthers to cover the 8.5 points here.

Best Bet: High Point -8.5

LIU at Fordham

Start Time: 7:00 PM EST

The Long Island Sharks travel to the Rose Hill Gym in the The Bronx for a matchup with Fordham. Hopefully, the LIU bus driver has the directions and will get the Sharks to the game on time.

The Sharks have a better roster than Fordham does. The Rams lack athleticism on the defensive end and lack scoring punch on offense. LIU has an identity as an athletic team that plays at pace. Fordham will try to slow the game down, but the Rams have really struggled to stop opponents so far this year.

LIU comes into this game at 3-1. The Sharks opened the season by losing to Notre Dame, but have three straight wins against IU-Indy, Air Force, and James Madison. Fordham enters this matchup at 3-2. Two of their wins came against programs from lower levels. The Rams’ only DI win is a two-point win at home against Wagner.

LIU is more athletic, has succeeded against better teams in tougher spots, and is catching points. The books aren’t respecting the Sharks, but we should, and we will. Lock up LIU to stay within the number or win outright.

Best Bet: LIU +3.5

Central Arkansas at North Texas

North Texas is finally back at The Super Pit after a three-game road trip. The Mean Green haven’t played since November 14th, and they get Central Arkansas coming to Denton, TX. North Texas comes into this game at 3-2. They beat Loyola-Chicago at a ‘neutral site’ game, but dropped the last two legs of their road trip to St. Mary’s and Oregon State.

Central Arkansas might be a bottom-30 team in the nation. The Bears come into this game at 1-3. Their only win came against a DII school, and they just lost by seven to Samford. This is Central Arkansas’s third straight road game.

Central Arkansas is expected to finish in the bottom third of the ASUN, while North Texas is always in the mix to finish in the upper half of the AAC. The Mean Green have already shown themselves to be solid defensively against mid-major programs, and they can score more than you’d expect. Central Arkansas is almost equally bad on offense and defense.

North Texas is off the road and has had five days of rest. The Mean Green have the better roster and have a home-court advantage. Central Arkansas just stayed competitive with Samford. This should be a drill spot for North Texas. Lock up the Mean Green to cover the number at home.

Best Bet: North Texas -16.5
