College Basketball Preview, Picks, and Best Bets for November 12

college basketball picks November 12

The college hoops season turns 10 days old today. The November 12th slate isn’t quite as exciting as Super Tuesday. We have a few high-majors in action, but tonight lacks the heavyweight matchups that Super Tuesday normally sees. That being said, we’ve got some solid mid-major madness and found a trio of college basketball picks that you’ll want to lock up for tonight’s slate.

Elon at Marshall

Start Time: 7:00 PM EST

Marshall comes into their home opener 2-0 on the season. The Thundering Herd picked up nice road wins at UMass and at Toledo to start the season.

Elon is also 2-0, but owns home wins over DII Belmont Abbey and UNC-Greensboro. The Phoenix will be on the road for the first time this year.

Marshall gets its home opener on campus against a team that hasn’t traveled. The Thundering Herd also has a stronger roster that’s played at higher levels of college basketball. Elon entered the season as likely to finish in the bottom half of the CAA this year. Marshall should finish in the top half of the Sun Belt. Given the spot on the schedule and the difference in quality, this line is a little too short. Marshall wins this by double digits and covers in their first home game.

Best Bet: Marshall -9

Tulsa at Oral Roberts

Start Time: 8:00 PM EST

It’s been less than three years since Oral Roberts’ run in the NCAA tournament. It feels like a decade. All the pieces from that team have left Oral Roberts, and this program has a long way to go to get back to where it was. Oral Roberts enters this matchup 1-1. They got blown out by Oklahoma State and blew out NAIA John Brown.

Tulsa comes into this game with a record of 2-0. The Golden Hurricane destroyed DII Oklahoma Christian and beat Rhode Island by 17 at a neutral site game.

Tulsa has a roster made of portal pieces, but they clearly fit well together. They brought in a few guys from high-majors and a couple from mid-majors, but crafted a rotation of veteran guys who have played key roles with other teams. Oral Roberts has a new coach and an entirely new roster. They brought in three guys working their way back from injuries last year, and they clearly still need time to gel. These are two programs headed in different directions at the moment, and Tulsa should roll again here. Look for the Golden Hurricane to win this by double-digits.

Best Bet: Tulsa -9.5

UT-Martin at Bradley

Start Time: 8:30 PM EST

UT-Martin enters this matchup 2-0 after picking off UNLV in Las Vegas and beating up on NAIA Kentucky Christian at home. Bradley comes into this game 1-1 after losing to St. Bonaventure by six and blowing out Central Michigan.

We’ve already seen UT-Martin take a step up and win outright as a double-digit dog to a bigger program. The win at UNLV likely puts a target on their back, but this line is a bit high for this matchup. UT-Martin has a solid roster that clearly can compete with bigger programs. They may only have a handful of US-born players, but the size, athleticism, and shooting are undeniable.

Bradley should win this outright, but the difference in talent is less than 15.5 points. Lock up UT-Martin to stay within the number and cover the 15.5-point spread.

Best Bet: UT-Martin +15.5
