My quest for perfection on my weekly college football picks died long ago, and while I’m still up money, going 1-1 every week is no path to riches – it’s time to sweep the board this week. For my college football predictions and best bets for Week 8, we’re off to SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, and Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky. Let’s go!
College Football Predictions & Best Bets for Week 8
#8 Oregon Ducks vs Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Start Time: 6:30 PM EST
The Oregon Ducks seem to consistently be involved in my college football bets this season. I’ve routinely been on the other side of the Ducks in bets, including last week when I had the Indiana Hoosiers on the spread and they went on to beat Oregon by 10 points.
And I’m going against Oregon again this week, as they travel across the country to New Jersey to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Now, don’t get me wrong – the Scarlet Knights are in no way world beaters. They’ve dropped three straight games after opening the season with three straight wins, and they’re winless in the Big Ten.
However, the spread here is wider than my top secret calculations suggest it should be. My line is Oregon -6.5, which makes the Scarlet Knights the play on the spread.
Best Bet: Rutgers +17 (+100)
#21 Texas Longhorns vs Kentucky Wildcats
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
Now we’re off to the Bluegrass State, as the Kentucky Wildcats host the #21-ranked Texas Longhorns. Apparently, I have a thing for teams that are winless in their respective conferences, because I’m in on another one in this spot, the Wildcats.
Kentucky’s lone two wins this season have come against MAC teams, as they’ve dropped their three SEC games thus far. But they’ve played a much tougher schedule than the 4-2 (1-1 SEC) Longhorns, and we just need them to keep it close here, as they did in a seven-point loss to #20 Ole Miss in Week 2.
My magical numbers say the spread for this game should be Texas -6.5, so we’ve got plenty of wiggle room for Kentucky on the official spread we’re getting at the books.
