MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 7

Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers

First Pitch – 4:08 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – FS1

In the top of the first, the Mariners will get the first hacks. Their offense has been quiet for weeks. Over the first two games of the playoffs, they’ve onlky managed five total runs. The three games proceeding that, to end the year, saw them only produce six runs. That gives them an average of 2.2 runs per game over the last five games. Now they’ll get Jack Flaherty on the bump, who was sensational in his first start of October. He went all the way through the Guardians lineup without surrendering a run, which means we can count on him for three outs here.

The Tigers have not been a beacon of offensive strength this postseason either. In the five games they’ve played in October, they have put up just 14 total runs (or 2.8 per game). That doesn’t bode well for them as they face Logan Gilbert. Gilbert went the entire month of September without giving up more than two runs in a start. He posted a 2.30 ERA in the month and comes into the postseason well rested. He should be able to round this one out for us.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 7: No (-135)

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees

First Pitch – 8:08 pm EST
Yankee Stadium – Bronx, NY
Broadcast – FS1

So far in this series, we have seen 31 total runs scored. That comes out to 1.72 per inning. Despite that, we’ve seen just one total run in the first inning over those two games (or 0.50 runs per game). Those slow starts bode well for NRFI bettors. This pitching matchup also bodes well for NRFI bettors.

The first starter that we’ll see is Carlos Rodon. The last time Rodon allowed more than three runs in a start was back on August 1st. That solid run saw him put up a 2.61 ERA in the month of September. He also faced the Blue Jays once during the season, and had them blanked for the first four innings. With the run he’s on in a do-or-die game at home, he should have plenty of success early.

Shane Bieber gets the ball to bring this bet home. He got a late start to the year, but he has been quite good since starting up. In his last three starts, he’s allowed just five total runs. That gives him a 2.60 ERA in that span. Wih the Yankees’ slow starts and Bieber’s stuff, I like him to give us a clean first inning here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 7: No (-125)
