MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 6

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

First Pitch – 6:08 pm EST
Citizens Bank Park – Philadelphia, PA
Broadcast – TBS

Kicking off the Game 2 action with the bats on Monday is the Dodgers. They looked good swinging in their Game 1 win, but it took a while for them to settle into the game. They saw little to no offense over the first five innings and now will have to try to get going earlier against Jesus Luzardo. The Phillies lefty was sharp to end the year. He had a 3.21 ERA in September and a 3.12 ERA in the month of August. He also closed the year white hot – putting up 7.0 scoreless innings against the Marlins with ten strikeouts. Plus, the game prior, he threw against these very same Dodgers and put up an empty first frame.

To close out this NRFI effort, we’ll rely on Blake Snell. Snell started the playoffs right this year, holding the Reds scoreless over the first 6.0 innings of his start. That’s just a taste of how good he was to end the season. Over his last four starts (26.0 innings), he allowed just three earned runs – which comes out to a 1.04 ERA. Now he’ll get the Phillies, who ended the season in the exact opposite fashion. Over their last five games, they scored only nine runs. As a result, I think Snell should be able to close this one out for us.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 6: No (-145)

Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 9:08 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – TBS

In the nightcap of the National League games, we have a reliever hitting the bump to kick things off. Aaron Ashby is first to the mound against these Cubs. He actually threw in Game 1 of the series – finishing off the sixth inning and throwing the entire seventh. He retired all four batters that he faced and picked up a strikeout in the process. That’s more of the same for Ashby, who hasn’t allowed a run since September 9th. That span includes eight appearances, 11.2 innings, and 13 strikeouts. I can’t imagine that in the biggest moment of the season, that’s about to change.

Thee bottom of the inning sees Shota Imanaga toeing the rubber. His season numbers have not been as great as the Cubs had hoped for, but he has had success against the Brewers. In his last start against the Brewers, he went 7.0 strong and allowed just two runs. That includes a clean first frame. I like his chances to give us another quick first inning here to cash this bet.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 6: No (-135)
