Our plus-money first inning play cashed on Tuesday down in Atlanta. Another hot start for the Braves pitching – this time Hurston Waldrep – and another slow start for their bats. Now we look to build on the big hit with soem NRFI bets for September 24.
All the teams are in action on Wednesday and that gives us plenty to look through for our NRFI and YRFI props for September 24. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 24
Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Petco Park – San Diego, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV
This is the perfect example of a game I’d like to play due to the fact that neither of these teams have much to play for. The Brewers have all but wrapped up the division and should cruise to home field advantage. Meanwehile, The Padres just clinched a playoff berth. While they could steal the division, they’ll be playing the the opening round of the playoffs regardless. There’s no reason for each of these teams to send out their best nine when Wednesday rolls around. Even if they do, they won’t have that same gusto as a team that is fighting for something.
We’ll add all those facts to the fact that there is a great pitching matchup on hand. Dylan Cease is first to the rubber and he has held his opponents to two or less runs in three of his last four starts. That gives him a 3.43 ERA in the month of September with 24 strikeouts in just 21.0 innings. Standing across from him is a pitcher who has been much better. Quinn Priester hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a start since August 10th. He’s also coming off of a 10 strikeout performance against the Angels. With little to play for, these arms should get us through the first six outs unscathed.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 24: No (TBD)
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Great American Ball Park – Cincinnati, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV
In this game, we very much have a team that has something to play for. Heading into action on Tuesday, the Reds were tied for the last playoff spot. While they’ll be pressing for action here, they haven’t been great with the bats lately. Although they’re 4-1 in their last five games, they have scored just 17 total runs (or 3.4 per game). Now they’ll face Paul Skenes in this one, which shouldn’t make things much easier for them. The clearcut NL Cy Young winner should waltz through this order.
The other half of what we need comes with the Pirates at the plate. While the Reds aren’t hitting well right now, the Pirates haven’t all year. They rank dead last in runs per game this year with just 3.60 per game. Hunter Greene will be looking forward to seeing that crew. He’s trying to better his 2.74 ERA before the season ends. He’s done well with it lately, holding his opponents to one run or less in three of his last four. His only start against the Pirates this year saw him go 7.0 scoreless and strike out eight. Pencil him in for a clean first inning and easy game overall.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 24: No (-175)
