There’s only a week’s worth of games left on the season. We stayed in the black on our first inning bets over the weekend and now we’re looking to keep that going with NRFI bets for September 22.
Monday is another thin batch of games. Just six teams are in action, but we still found a couple of NRFI and YRFI props for September 22. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 22
Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – MLB TV
In the top of the first the Nationals get their hacks. They haven’t been putting up much in terms of offense lately, with just 18 total runs over their last five games (or 3.6 runs per game). That’s not much of a surprise as they rank in the bottom third of the league when it comes to run scoring. Things are about to get worse for them with Chris Sale on the bump. He’s rocking a 2.35 ERA on the year and has allowed one or less runs in three of his four starts since returning from injury. In that span, he’s had an ERA of just 1.75 and has struck out 36 in just 25.2 innings. The idea of him keeping them quiet for just three outs seems like a gimme.
The Braves are currently one of the hottest teams in baseball. They have won eight straight games and are looking like what we expected – but didn’t get – all year. Despite putting up a ton of runs, they have scored in the first inning just once in their last seven games. That’s part of why they rank in the bottom third of the league when it comes to scoring in the first inning. Now they’ll face MacKenzie Gore, who has been solid all year. He’s fresh off a start against these same Braves where he kept them scoreless for 5.1 innings. It seems like a slam dunk that he’ll get us through the first.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 22: No (-175)
Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Petco Park – San Diego, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Brew Crew get us started in out next NRFI effort. They are one of the very best teams in the National League, but they are not one of the best teams in the first inning. Despite putting up solid numbers over the year, they still rank in the bottom third of the majors when it comes to scoring in the opening frame. Nick Pivetta and his 2.81 ERA shouldn’t make that easier. He’s allowed more than two runs in a start just once in his last seven starts. He should be able to start this frame right for us.
In the bottom of the first, we get to see Freddy Peralta. He and his 2.65 ERA are looking for their 18th win of the season. He’s allowed more than one run in a start just once since the end of July. To make matters easier for him, San Diego is one of the few teams that are worse than the Brewers in the first inning. Peralta should mow a few down here and get us to our second NRFI of the day.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 22: No (-160)
